Profit per hour

Enter the profit and the minutes one item takes, from finding it to shipping it. Add more items to see which earns the most for your time.

The rows below are examples. Electronics stands in for things like a VCR or game console. Rename them, change the numbers, delete them or add your own to match how you sell. Minutes can be decimals, like 0.5 for half a minute.

Items to compare

Times are minutes for one item. Sourcing: finding, buying and hauling. Listing: cleaning, photos and writing. Packing: boxing, labeling and drop-off. Other: listing upkeep like repricing, answering messages, handling offers and returns. Profit is after fees, shipping and what you paid.

What you bought

Estimated profit is what you expect to keep on each item after fees, shipping and what you paid for it. The Profit tab can work it out. These rows are examples, so change them to match your trip.

Inventory sell-through

See how fast your inventory sells, how long the rest would take to clear, and how much cash is sitting on the shelf. Break it out by category to see what moves and what doesn't.

The rows below are examples. Rename them, change the numbers, delete them or add your own. Your marketplace's sales report or active listings page has the counts.

Shipping estimate

A rough USPS Ground Advantage estimate for a typical mid-distance shipment (Zone 5), including size-based pricing for big boxes. Your actual label price will differ.

Discount

These numbers are estimates only. Postal rates now vary by where the item ships from and to, so the same package can cost noticeably more or less than shown. Packages going to or from rural ZIP codes may be charged higher rates, sometimes much higher. Always check the real price in your label software before you set a shipping charge.

How the numbers work

Profit and ROI

The sale price is the all-in price the buyer pays, with shipping you cover coming out of it. Profit is that minus marketplace fees, postage, supplies and what you paid. ROI is profit divided by what you paid. Margin is profit divided by the sale.

Shipping is different on every site

On eBay and Etsy you buy your own label and charge the buyer what you like. Poshmark, Mercari, Depop, Whatnot and Facebook sell you the label, and the buyer usually pays for it. Amazon FBA ships for you, so your cost is getting it into the warehouse.

Buyer fees change what the buyer sees

Depop and Mercari charge the buyer a fee on top of your price, so a $45 listing costs the buyer more there than on eBay. Comparing by the buyer's total lists lower on those sites so every buyer pays the same, which is the fairest way to compare.

Fees on shipping and tax

eBay, Mercari, Etsy and Facebook take their percentage from buyer-paid shipping too, and several charge on the sales tax the buyer pays. Poshmark and Whatnot commissions are on the item price only.

Fee rates

Standard US seller fees as of November 2026. Category rates, promotions and seller levels vary, so check your marketplace's fee page for anything unusual.
